A few first pictures of Pleuni and Peter’s wedding last week. We had an hour of grand weather and took advantage of that along the river IJssel in their hometown Deventer.

Pleuni en Peter met in Rotterdam at her sisters place. In August they will marry and to get to know each other we made some engagement pictures.
For the venue we chose the “Parade” It’s a mixture of a circus and theater. Apart from the tents with the stages there are a lot of things happening. When the lights go on it really has a very nice atmosphere.

I was driving along the South coast of England on the way to Dungeness when I met this fisherman.
He is Greek but living in England for ages. Now with pension and fishing for fun and to stay from SWMBO.
I’ve been searching for the perfect portrait lens for quit some time now.
I’ve tried loads of them but finally found a reasonable priced leica Summilux 80.
Testing took place the last two weeks and here are some results. Both on film (R6, Kodak Portra 400) and digital (Canon 5dII) it delivers the look I’ve been searching for. Sharp enough wide open, almost perfect Bokeh, shallow DOF.

Petra and Sjaco are good friends who already lived together for quiet some time. In total they have 5 children. They decided it was now time to marry. At last!
They had a small but very enjoyable wedding.
I mixed digital with film and really enjoyed that.

I had the pleasure to shoot a wedding on one of the islands in the north of the Netherlands.
It’s pretty small, no cars are allowed and we had to stay over at least one night. These islands are my favorite places in my country and I was therefore very pleased I could shoot this wedding. Not in the least because the couple was so nice, beautiful and friendly
The islands in the North are the coldest but also the most sunniest places in the Netherlands. We had some nice weather until we had our hour for formals, it started to pour. After the hour was over it stopped raining. But then I had the opportunity to make the nice shot in the street.
There was no motorized transportation, everything was on foot. The local band was there for the music and the ceremony was in the local church. The helper of the officiant was ill and therefore her brother in law stepped in which is a fisher man too. That’s how it works in these small communities.
Actually, just before the wedding there was a funeral. Custom in this village is that a funeral is held just after midday. In that way people from the mainland can attend the funeral by coming with the ferry in the morning and leave with the ferry after the funeral. The deceased is carried through the main street and all the windows and doors are closed and blinded Sorry, no pictures of this.
Now some pictures of the wedding:

This is year I visited for the first time the Photo festival in Arles. I wish I had done it before. It was great. Arles is already very photogenic by it self but adding all the exhibitions and photographers made it awesome.
Apart from the exhibitions Arles is also very much about meeting people. I met with Roger and Frances and a few other people from the Rangefinder forum.
I made quiet a few photos. Not so much of people, I decided to do some architecture shots. Well, mostly windows and doors. All on film of course, this was an holiday. I choose for velvia to emphasize even more the nice colors and sometimes harsh light of the Mediterranean sun.

At last. I’ve been waiting 20 years at least to get a shot like this.

I had the great honor and pleasure to 2nd shoot and assist the best wedding photographer in the Netherlands Kristen Wood.
We shot a Chinese wedding which was so busy we really needed two shooters. Karen was with the bride all day because she changed dresses four times. This isn’t unusual for a Chinese bride. I stayed with the boys and shot anything else that came for the lens.
Crystal and Simon had their ceremony great party at the castle Hooge Vuursche but not before they performed several tea ceremonies. Needles to say we shot those too!
Both Crystal and Simon looked stunning as did their wedding party.

Arjan is an old friend of mine. We go back to the times we were teaching sailing on the lakes of Friesland.
He kept on sailing as a job on an vintage freighter as captain. Recently he accepted a job as a traffic controller at the Ijmuiden locks. He’s settling down, met a very nice lady and they deiced to marry. Needless to say water had to be an important part of the wedding.
Of course I was delighted to photograph their wedding. A very nice wedding indeed, no motorized transportation was involved. We walked and went over the water. Arjan and Judith were rowed by two strong men from the rowing club they are members of. It was a delightful relaxed wedding with lots of their friends in a very nice location.
A few pictures to share.
