Island Wedding

I had the pleasure to shoot a wedding on one of the islands in the north of the Netherlands.

It’s pretty small, no cars are allowed and we had to stay over at least one night. These islands are my favorite places in my country and I was therefore very pleased I could shoot this wedding. Not in the least because the couple was so nice, beautiful and friendly

The islands in the North are the coldest but also the most sunniest places in the Netherlands. We had some nice weather until we had our hour for formals, it started to pour. After the hour was over it stopped raining. But then I had the opportunity to make the nice shot in the street.

There was no motorized transportation, everything was on foot. The local band was there for the music and the ceremony was in the local church. The helper of the officiant was ill and therefore her brother in law stepped in which is a fisher man too. That’s how it works in these small communities.

Actually, just before the wedding there was a funeral. Custom in this village is that a funeral is held just after midday. In that way people from the mainland can attend the funeral by coming with the ferry in the morning and leave with the ferry after the funeral. The deceased is carried through the main street and all the windows and doors are closed and blinded Sorry, no pictures of this.

Now some pictures of the wedding:

  1. These are delightful, Michiel. Your weddings always work well. This set is warm and engaging and friendly. That sounds just like your description of the couple.

  2. the shot from the balcony typifies the community spirit so well …………. the restaurant too!
the chess set-up makes a real change. depicts the challenge of life together too …………
the dutchness of amerland(?) is encompassed in shot 9, i think.

yet a different rendition of a theme of time. bravo.
