Judith and Arjan

Arjan is an old friend of mine. We go back to the times we were teaching sailing on the lakes of Friesland.

He kept on sailing as a job on an vintage freighter as captain. Recently he accepted a job as a traffic controller at the Ijmuiden locks. He’s settling down, met a very nice lady and they deiced to marry. Needless to say water had to be an important part of the wedding.

Of course I was delighted to photograph their wedding. A very nice wedding indeed, no motorized transportation was involved. We walked and went over the water. Arjan and Judith were rowed by two strong men from the rowing club they are members of. It was a delightful relaxed wedding with lots of their friends in a very nice location.

A few pictures to share.

  1. Very nice non traditional wedding photos. Although you posted on Jan 1, I’m sure the wedding didn’t occur during this
European winter. I particularly like “On the way to the party venue.” It looks like it could have been taken 100 years ago (except for the bride’s clothing). Excellent work.

  2. photos of a friend by a friend underline this scenario. joy bursts through judith’s face. the weather crowns your images in the boat, michael. all very proper in a traditional way with the fokkema tint easing the imagery and capturing the formal fun.

  3. Hi Michiel very nice. And we like the other 732 pictures very much too. See you soon. We still owe you a beer and a sailing trip.
    Kind regards, Arjan and Judith.
